Henry County Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy begins in March. The 11-week program will be held every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. from March 5-May 14. The academy gives citizens a better understanding of police work in Henry. Participants will be introduced to Uniform Patrol Division, the CAGE and HEAT units, Crime Scene Investigations, the SWAT and traffic units, Internal Affairs, Internet crimes, narcotics and firearms, and other departments. They’ll also tour the Henry County Sheriff’s office, the county Judicial Center, the 911 Center and the Solicitor’s Office. The academy will be held at the Public Safety building, 108 S. Zack Hinton Parkway in McDonough. The class is free but space is limited and opened to Henry citizens who are 18 and older. Background checks are required.
