The Hampton City Council voted at its Feb. 12 regular meeting on a budget amendment granting $100,000 to the city’s Downtown Development Authority.

The vote was 4-2 with Stephanie Bodie and Henry Byrd voting against. The vote came after an executive session and there was no discussion of the issue. Byrd asked just before the vote if it could be done legally since the specific item was not on the meeting agenda, and he was advised that it was within the confines of the state’s Open Meetings Law because the wording “action on executive session item” is in the agenda.
