Seven roadway bridges in Gwinnett will be rehabilitated to extend their useful lives under a contract approved Tuesday by Gwinnett Board of Commissioners. Bridges at New Hope Road, Westbrook Road, Alpine Drive, Spanish Oak Drive, River Drive, Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Riverside Parkway will undergo repair.
Acting Transportation Director Alan Chapman explained, “Bridge structures are subject to deterioration over time, through both use and exposure to weather. Rehabilitation of the concrete and steel components of a bridge, including the bridge deck, beams and supporting sub-structure, can extend its useful life, allowing for cost savings compared to a full bridge replacement.”
The county contracted with Proshot Concrete Inc. for a low bid of $347,595. Funding is provided through the 2009 SPLOST program.
