Gwinnett commissioners agreed Tuesday to renew a $1.7 million annual contract for countywide wireless voice and data services utilizing a competitively procured agreement with the State of Georgia and Georgia Technology Authority.

The contract provides cellular phone service and equipment and push-to-talk service and equipment with telephone capability for all county departments and elected officials’ offices having a business need for the service. There are approximately 3,414 devices throughout these departments and offices with cellular services. These devices include cellular phones, BlackBerrys, smartphones, air cards, tablets and modems.

Under the state contract, discounts and service package enhancements and upgrades are automatically passed along to the county. The statewide convenience contract allows Gwinnett to take advantage of the state’s purchasing volume at significantly-reduced prices while providing a variety of rate plans, equipment, and accessories to meet the county’s needs.
