A 50-year-old Lawrenceville man may stand trial in Gwinnett County next week on animal cruelty charges for allegedly beating a Dachsund.

Police said Dainley Dewayne Green severely beat and choked the animal in front of his two children in January 2010.

The 2-year-old Dachshund, named "Rocky," suffered a fractured skull and other broken bones, however he was expected to recover. Deputies were tipped off to the attack when Green's wife filed for a temporary protective order against him.

Green's trial is scheduled for next week, however Chuck Ross, a prosecutor in the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office, said could be pushed back to a later date because of other cases.
