Gwinnett commissioners approved a request by the Fire and Emergency Services Department to purchase gas hydraulic extrication devices, more commonly known as “jaws of life” tools. The $784,080 contract with High Tech Rescue Inc. will initially replace 22 older extrication tool sets that range from 12 to over 18 years of age. Gwinnett will then continue to replace tool sets as needed. Funds are provided by the 2014 SPLOST program.

In a separate contract, the department will receive $233,680 to purchase and maintain firefighter turnout gear. The annual contract with Bennett Fire Products will purchase and maintain outer protective clothing used by Gwinnett County Firefighters during an emergency response.
