Gwinnett Commissioners voted Tuesday, Aug. 4, to accept a Law Enforcement Operations/Specialty Teams Urban Area Security Initiative grant for equipment. The Metro Atlanta UASI Inc. grant is for $36,234.05 in monitoring equipment that will build and sustain capabilities that enhance homeland security. The grant is 100 percent funded through UASI, with no match requirements.

The funds will assist Gwinnett’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services to sustain and strengthen the existing Hazardous Materials Team. The equipment will aid in the county’s ability to detect and respond to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive incidents and other types of man-made or natural disasters in Gwinnett.
