Georgia EPD seeks comments on Cochran Lake variance

Public comments are being sought by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division on a variance request that would affect a Cobb County lake.

The Gordon and Dees Lake and Dam Owners Association proposes to repair the dam and primary spillway, excavate Cochran’s Lake South to increase storage capacity and remove trees along the dam on Stone Road off Cochran Lake Road.

These projects would impact 119,554 square feet of the stream buffer along Cochran’s Lake South and a stream to Cochran’s Lake North.

Site plans may be reviewed at Kimley-Horn, 817 West Peachtree St., The Biltmore, Suite 601, Atlanta.

Since the EPD has no authority to zone property or determine land use, only those comments addressing environmental issues related to air, water and land protection will be considered in the application review process, according to the legal notice.

Written comments will be received until April 11 and should be submitted to: Program Manager, NonPoint Source Program, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Unit, 2 MLK Jr. Drive SW, Suite 1462 East, Atlanta, GA 30334.
