The children’s playground at Central Park in Forsyth County will be closed the next few weeks as workers upgrade the surface from mulch to a rubberized material.

The playground is expected to reopen Aug. 29. Central Park is at 2300 Keith Bridge Road.

The new, rubberized surface will be safer and environmentally friendly and will require little to no annual maintenance, county officials say. Bliss Products and Services is doing the $167,756 project for the county. It is being funded by a Parks, Recreation and Green Space bond approved by Forsyth voters in 2008.

Playgrounds at Chattahoochee Pointe, Coal Mountain Park and Sawnee Mountain Preserve already have rubberized surfaces, while those at the future Matt Community Park at Settingdown Creek and Lanierland Park are to include the surface.
