May 11 is the deadline for young people to apply for the Forsyth County Junior Fire Academy, a free, week-long, daytime summer camp for students entering seventh and eighth grade this fall.

The Forsyth Fire Department camp offers education and experience in the job of a firefighter. Topics covered include firefighting, search-and-rescue practices, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other skills, officials said.

The academy will meet 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., June 4-8, at Fire Department headquarters in the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex on Settingdown Road. To apply: https://bit.ly/2FynWTS

“The Junior Fire Academy is a great way to show our community’s students a week in the life of a firefighter while also helping them build a sense of teamwork and responsibility,” said Fire Chief Danny Bowman. “We want the children to learn safety lessons about things around their homes and schools that they encounter every day.”
