The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 to extend its moratorium on accepting rezoning applications for three residential categories until June 3. Commissioners also told the county attorney to advertise a June 2 public hearing to consider keeping the ban in place until the end of the year.
The board first adopted the moratorium March 3 for all land-use zoning and then narrowed its scope to three single-family residential categories on April 7 while extending it another month. The moves came after planning and community development department officials said they were down by a number of positions and needed to catch up and that the overall volume of zoning applications was increasing.
Vanessa Bernstein-Goldman of the county planning and community development department told the commission that progress is being made filling positions, but that nine vacancies remain. She said that tentative offers are out to fill two of those.
