The Forsyth County Sheriff’s office has been re-accredited by The Commission on Accreditation For Law Enforcement Agencies, which provides programs for and rates/accredits law enforcement agencies. The county had maintained its certification for a number of years but dropped out of the program under former sheriff Duane Price.

Sheriff’s Spokesman Lt. Doug Rainwater said to regain its stripes, the office needed to show it adhered to a longlist of standards governing its internal affairs, patrol, criminal investigation agency and other subgroups of the department. It was also graded on crime-scene, evidence-handling and other procedures. The process included an on-site visit by CALEA .

Sheriff’s officials said in a Facebook post that national accreditation is a “blue ribbon” seal that a law enforcement Agency is willing to meet the best standards and practices within an agency.
