The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners has proposed millage rates that would increase property taxes, and has announced three public hearings in July where residents can comment.
The hearings are 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday, July 11, and 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the Forsyth County Administration Building, 110 E. Main St., Cumming. Commissioners are to vote on the millage rate at the board meeting that starts at 6:30 p.m., July 18.
The net maintenance and operations tax rate is to be increased to 4.791 mills, and the fire millage rate, to 2.175 mills; while the bond rate is to be reduced to 0.970 mills. Due to growth in the tax digest, M&O taxes to be levied by the county will go up by a net 7.42% over the rollback millage rate, officials said.
Still, the county said in an news release, “Forsyth County continues to have millage rates among the lowest in metro Atlanta.”
The tax digest is to grow by 8.37%, officials said. Of that amount, 4.11% is due to new construction, and 4.26%, to increased values from reassessments.
