Forsyth County officials want to know how residents feel about continuation of the SPLOST sales tax program-and what projects they’d like to see funded if that’s approved.

They’ve set up a series of meetings starting with a session for residents of the county commission’s first district. That will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 24 at the Cumming Public Library, 585 Dahlonega St. in Cumming. A series of meetings with residents of all five commission districts will continue into early March. Commissioners will decide later this year whether to set an eighth SPLOST referendum for November of 2018.

The SPLOST one percent sales tax was first enacted by county voters in 1987 and is designed for designated programs and/or specific capital projects. Prior iterations of the program have funded everything from roadway widening and intersection improvements to parks and green space to new equipment and buildings for the fire department.
