Forsyth County officials are moving ahead on a longtime project to widen Pilgrim Mill Road from the Cumming City limits to Holtzclaw Road.

The Forsyth County Commission OK’d a work authorization for Moreland Altobelli to acquire right-of-way for the project from the city limits to Freedom Parkway, which will be four lanes. The county also plans a three-lane configuration from Freedom to Holtzclaw.

The project began as a joint city/county SPLOST 5 project. The Cumming City Council voted earlier this month to keep a 2007 intergovernmental agreement in force with the county. The city completed its portion of the widening (to three lanes) from Ga. 9 to the city limits a few years ago.

After a lack of full funding under SPLOST 5 and 6, the project is now being paid for by a combination of SPLOST 7 and county transportation bond monies. Gardner said that following right-of-way acquisition and final design, the project will go out for bids. County officials expect construction to be finished by the end of 2018.
