Forsyth County government is again giving a leg up to homegrown companies wanting to do business with the county. Officials have extended the Local Business Initiative program through 2017, under which county-based companies get a “local preference credit” of 5 percent when they submit bids for projects of less than $1 million. Public works and road projects aren’t included.

Businesses have to meet several requirements, including having their principal office in Forsyth, a valid business license and a banking relationship with a branch located in the county. Procurement officials said that five transactions were awarded through the program in 2016.
