After months of meetings, tweaking and public input, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved the county’s Comprehensive Plan for 2017-2037. The plan is intended as a guidepost on future land use, transportation, housing and economic development decisions.

The final document — dubbed Foster Forsyth — was adopted with some changes suggested during a number of meetings, including a March 29 session. The plan continues to divide the county into 11 different character areas, but the number of development nodes has been reduced from an earlier 15 to 12. Another change has to do with the zoning matrix. It changes the MU 6 and MU 12 mixed-use zoning categories to MU community and MU regional. That would provide for certain densities of mixed-use development in community and regional areas.

The revisions also keep mater planned districts inside of specified development nodes, while eliminating it outside them. And it changes the boundary line between the Etowah character area and the Georgia 400 north area.

After state and regional reviews, the plan will come back for final approval by commissioners in July.
