During a special joint meeting on Jan. 24, representatives from Fayetteville’s Downtown Development Authority, Planning Commission and City Council unveiled an updated conceptual plan to revamp the city’s central business district.

The plan would involve the development of two to three tracts along Stonewall Avenue, Lafayette Avenue, Glynn Street and Lanier Avenue to create more retail space, green space, residential areas and parking. It would also reconfigure existing roads and add new side streets and pedestrian paths. Mayor Edward Johnson said the plan would be tweaked based on citizen input, with the goal of creating “a more vibrant, walkable” downtown.
