East Fayetteville residents raised concerns about a new Dollar General store during a town hall meeting Tuesday night at City Hall. The meeting was held to update the community regarding plans, already approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission, to develop property on the corner of Weatherly Drive and E. Lanier Avenue.
Some nearby residents objected to both the type of store and the lack of traffic signals and pedestrian crosswalks, which could affect public safety.
Fayetteville Mayor Edward Johnson explained that the city cannot regulate which types of business can move onto a site as long as they meet zoning requirements for commercial property. He said city staff will consult with the Georgia Department of Transportation to discuss options for pedestrian crossings.
