Fayette County Public Schools is hiring an outside firm to conduct a long-range planning and classroom utilization study.

The Board of Education voted 5-0 on Sept. 24 to pay Marietta-based Education Planners $17,500 for a study that will evaluate local birth data, community growth, housing and business development trends, and eight years of enrollment data in order to develop projections for school system capacity needs for the next 5-10 years. The report, which will take approximately six weeks to complete, will also include a review of geographic data and relevant programs or policies to develop planning recommendations, and will evaluate the functional capacity of each school.

The final report will be presented to BOE members and school system staff.
