Fayette County voters will not be deciding a proposed Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax in November after all. Although the county and its municipalities recently agreed to expand the one-cent tax plan to six years instead of four, county officials decided that there was not enough time left to adequately prepare the measure for the Nov. 8 ballot.

The Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 last week to hold a special election for the SPLOST next March, which will cost about $60,000 to conduct. Commissioner Randy Ognio voted against the delay, saying he was concerned about voter turnout being low.
