Fayette County Public Schools will change how student work is graded between now and the end of the school year “to minimize negative impacts to student achievement as we deliver instruction virtually.”

The Board of Education unanimously approved the modifications at its April 13 work session. At all grade levels, students will not be penalized for late work and will be given a chance to improve their performance on any assignment that initially received a failing grade. Other allowances will be made for children depending on their grade level, based on the county’s rationale that “some students are struggling with or are not participating in a virtual learning environment.”

Teachers will be given more leeway to decide which lessons are most critical in the final grading period, and are asked to give students specific feedback regarding achievement. High schoolers will not be given comprehensive final exams or End of Pathway Assessments, and AP exams will be optional.

The full memo about the changes is posted under the Press Room tab at www.fcboe.org.
