A lengthy debate over whether to consider a moratorium on residential rezoning led to the Fayette County Board of Commissioners deciding to table the proposal.

Commissioner Steve Brown began Thursday’s meeting by asking to schedule a vote that could suspend all requests for housing-related rezoning until local leaders and citizens can discuss a development plan for the entire county. Other commissioners questioned the timing and details of the proposal, and opted to let staff review the measure for further discussion on Aug. 11.

The county is already scheduled to complete a revised comprehensive plan by June 2017.
