Fayette County plans to gradually reopen its government offices and some public facilities starting May 18. County Administrator Steve Rapson discussed the details at a Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday.
The Stonewall Avenue administrative offices will stay closed to the public through May 17 as the county evaluates teleworking plans, rotating and flexible schedules, job sharing and other ways of bringing more staff back on site. Rapson said employees will be given protective masks, gloves and temperature-taking equipment; 40 employees with high-risk health issues will not return to the office as soon.
Starting May 18, there will be a “phased reopening” of library services, senior centers, recreation programming and some parks and rental activities. However, Rapson said physical distancing precautions will be maintained and large events such as tournaments and yard sales will remain delayed. Summer camps might restart in mid-June.
Rapson said the county will continue to closely monitor local COVID-19 cases and make further decisions accordingly.
