Peachtree City’s request to annex 105 acres on its eastern border with Fayette County was met with a “friendly objection” by the county’s Board of Commissioners on Aug. 23.

The proposal is to annex and rezone 30 properties along Ga. Hwy. 54, including the Peachtree City East shopping center and just under 50 acres of undeveloped land off Governers Square, which Ravin Homes wants to develop into 94 residential lots. County staff submitted reasons for objection (including stormwater, emergency services and traffic density) based on the initial request, but Peachtree City Manager Jon Rorie told the commission that many of its concerns are not valid.

Because Peachtree City has a two-step annexation process, the county had to either file an objection now or waive that option later. Following further legal review, the issue may go before an arbitration panel in September.
