Residents concerned about safety, drainage and other issues persuaded the Fayette County Board of Commissioners last Thursday to approve the paving of Swanson Road, which is between Adams Road and Ellison Road just east of Tyrone. The project’s estimated $290,000 cost would come from an already budgeted contingency fund, with construction scheduled to begin in May and be completed by October. Although the majority of residents who spoke at the meeting favored replacing the gravel with asphalt because of the road’s rough and narrow condition, several homeowners were concerned that paving would increase cut-through traffic and require the loss of too many trees.
