A former Tucker High School student and his father were indicted Tuesday on charges linked to the death of the younger man's classmate in May.
Boris Mejia, 18, is charged with two counts of murder -- one premeditated -- and one charge of trying to hide the death of Andrea Nassos. Ignacio Mejia, is charged with tampering with evidence and trying to hinder the arrest of his son.
Boris Mejia could get life in prison if he is convicted on either count of murder and the charges against his father carry prison sentences of as little as a year or as much as 10 if convicted.
District Attorney Robert James said it’s not known how Nassos died because her body was burned. Police said she was put in the trunk of her four-door sedan and the car was set on fire. The smoldering car was found in Lucky Shoals Park in Gwinnett County around 5 a.m. May 20.
James said the motive behind Nassos’ death was unknown.
“They knew each other,“ James said. “This was not a stranger-on-stranger crime. I don’t have any evidence they were romantically involved.“
Police said Boris first tried to bury Nassos in his backyard on Old Norcross Road in Tucker the day before her car was found.
But his father stopped him.
Still, the indictment said, the father told his son to hide the body. That was when Boris Mejia took Nassos’ car and her body to the park.
Several days later, after attending his graduation ceremony, Boris and his 50-year-old father drove to Houston so he could get away, police said.
“There was a conversation” between the two Mejias, James said.
“There was counseling of the defendant to go to Houston,” the prosecutor said.
Both have been in custody since their arrests. No trial date has been set.
