Father grills son in Henry murder trial

A 12-year-old boy faced off against his father in a Henry County courtroom as the man tried to discredit his son’s recollections of the night his mother was killed.

The boy -- who had only seen his father in court since his mother was killed in 2005 – testified in Changa Ola Jones’ murder trial that he heard his mother arguing with his dad the night before Natasha Monique Brown Jones was found, according to an account of the testimony in the Henry Daily Herald.

This is Changa Jones’ third trial on charges he murdered his estranged wife. The first two trials were mistrials. In this trial, Changa Jones is acting as his own attorney.

Natasha Jones was strangled at her Carlsbad Cove house on Oct. 24, 2005.

The boy testified that his father was planning to take him away and that his mother was “sad and crying” the night before she was killed.

“You never told me where I was going,” said the boy, who was 8 years old when his mother was killed. “You just said you were coming to get me.”

Later that evening, the boy testified, he heard the garage door open and moments later a door inside the house slammed.

Then he heard his mother arguing with a man who sounded like his father, the boy said.

But Changa Jones questioned whether the voice his son heard was his or even a man’s, according to the newspaper's account.

“It couldn’t have been anyone,” the boy answered. “It sounded like a man’s voice.”

Changa Jones contends he was in Florida when Natasha Jones died, the Henry County newspaper reported.
