The family of an elderly Gwinnett County woman and her 14-year-old granddaughter are thanking the police officers who saved their loved ones' lives.

Wendell Davis fought back tears as he described the brutal attack on his wife Phyllis and granddaughter Tucker.

He credits the four officers who responded to his wife's 911 call and tasered Andre Burton as he was brutally beating them in a bathroom.

"They did a great job... they never get enough credit for what they do and we're glad to have the opportunity to do this," Davis tells WSB's Sandra Parrish.

The 73-year-old woman is now in rehab recovering from severe bruising and two broken bones in her neck.  She was kicked and punched repeatedly and slammed into the wall of the shower.

Tucker, who suffered bruises and nearly two dozen stitches to her face, was on hand to thank the officers herself.

Her father, Rowdy Davis, says had it not been for the officers' timely response, the outcome could have been much different.

"If these guys had not done what they did when they did, this would not have had a good ending," he says.

Officer Daniel Bennett says the men will gladly accept the appreciation during a time when law enforcement seems to be getting a lot of negative publicity.

"It's kind of a hard time to be a police officer; but really deep down, everybody that I know that works here... this is what it's all about," he says.

Police believe Burton, who was naked at the time he broke into the family's Lawrenceville home, was on drugs.

During his first court appearance, he told the judge he used to be a professional basketball player in Holland.

Burton is facing more than a dozen charges and is being held without bond.
