Peachtree City will not pay for additional dredging of Lake Peachtree, at the recommendation of City Manager Jim Pennington. After receiving bids from the contractor already hired by Fayette County to dredge larger areas, Pennington and the city council on Thursday rejected the $602,000 bid for extra dredging they said was unncessary.

The city will negotiate with the contractor regarding a “way too high” bid of $235,000 bid to remove heavy vegetation that might cause water quality problems if left to rot. said Pennington. The project will begin in late February or early March after the contractor preps the area for hauling out the silt.
