A “multi-use market, event, entertainment and community fairground” has been proposed for a site near where the Atlanta Beltline crosses Murphy Avenue SW and Lee Street SW in the Oakland City neighborhood.

Venue operator Asa Fain sought a special-use permit allowing an outdoor venue, and city staff recommended conditional approval, limiting the permit to five years, according to documents filed with the city Department of Planning and Community Development.

The facility is proposed for 4.38 acres in an area zoned for light industry at Warner and Woodrow Streets SW. It would operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Sunday. Three to four managers would supervise 20 to 50 employees at concerts and festivals from March through October, and farmers markets, craft markets and other outdoor sales on weekends. There would be parking for 90 and 233 vehicles, depending on the event.

“The flexible multi-use market will serve as a community gathering space with food trucks, a performance stage with seating, outdoor vending, portable restrooms and flexible parking,” a staff report on the proposal says. “The applicant intends to coordinate with local neighborhood and civil groups and organizations.”
