Evangelist Billy Graham was admitted to an Asheville, N.C., hospital Wednesday for evaluation and treatment of his lungs, according to a hospital statement.

The prominent evangelist, who was treated for pneumonia in May, was being tested for pneumonia again, Mission Hospital said in a statement. His condition was listed as stable.

The hospital said Graham was alert and smiling at hospital staff and it gave no date for his possible discharge, but it said Graham hoped to be home for Christmas.

Graham, who turned 93 earlier this month, just published his 30th book, "Nearing Home," a book that ranges from Scripture quotations about the end of life to advice on financial planning.

He was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Charlotte and raised on a dairy farm. Graham was ordained a Southern Baptist minister in 1939.

Graham married Ruth McCue Bell in 1943 and they had five children. Ruth Graham died June 14, 2007, at age 87.

Graham, who has traveled the world as an evangelist for more than six decades, told the Associated Press he wants to preach one last sermon before he dies.
