The East Point City Council recently denied a special use permit to operate a day care at 1868 Washington Road becaue that use is inconsistent with the city’s vision and goals for the area. City officials said they didn’t want to encourage more of the same type of business.
During the same meeting last week the Council decided to table the discussion of granting a special use permit to the East Point Multicultural Festival. The applicant, C. Henry Adams, may resubmit his request in six months. That will give him time to address concerns raised about costs and fees.
The council also received a presentation from the 50 Worst Properties Task Force.
In January, the council approved a budget of $165,411 to demolish 11 properties on the task force’s list of 159 blighted properties. Those properties were demolished, including one which was done by the owner, saving the city the cost of that demolition.
The task force budget also included mold remediation and repair to the City Hall building at 2777 East Point St. That project has also been completed.
