Cobb Commissioners approved the master plan Tuesday night for Mabry Park in east Cobb.

The master plan includes a mixture of playgrounds, nature trails, a boardwalk, pond, a community garden and biofiltration area that will collect water from the parking lot. The plan also calls for a 110-space parking lot and 40 spaces along the street.

Cobb purchased the 26.5-acre park property near the intersection of Wesley Chapel and Sandy Plains Roads in 2008 using money from the 2006 parks bond, but has not had the money to develop it.

A nonprofit group of private residents, Friends of Mabry Park, raised money to pay for the$7,500 master plan, and will raise money to develop the park. Costs are likely to include money for an access road onto the property which could cost around $400,000 depending on the length and composition, group members estimated.
