The Duluth City Council recently voted to elect Council Member Kelvin Kelkenberg to serves as the Mayor Pro Tempore. The mayor pro tem is responsible for assuming the duties and powers of the mayor during the mayor’s disability or absence.

Elected officials in Duluth serve four year-terms and/or until their respective successors are qualified and elected. These are part-time positions that are compensated by a monthly salary and a per meeting payment, not to exceed two payments per month. Compensation is set by city ordinance and is currently set as follows: mayor - $500 per month plus $150 per meeting, council members - $200 per month plus $150 per meeting.
