Duluth is set to begin its 7th collaboration between the mayor, city council and members of the Citizen’s Budget Review Advisory Committee for the FY2019 budget. The process is designed to provide citizens with confidence in the city’s financial health and practices and provide full access to all financial data. Past Citizen’s Budget Review Advisory Committees reflected a cross section of the citizenry and provided helpful feedback and recommendations. Interested citizens are encouraged to join the committee.
All meetings will take place 6 to 8 p.m.in the City Hall Community Room, 3167 Main St. The first meeting on Feb. 21 establishes an overview of the city’s budget process and what the Budget Committee’s role will be in the process. All Budget Committee participants will be given the city’s current operating budget (FY2018) and 10 year forecast presentation. They are asked to study the material and be ready to discuss details at the next meeting on Feb. 28.
The second meeting involves review of preliminary figures for the draft FY2019 budget, debt service commitments, exemptions, city initiatives, as well as information relating to capital reserve funds.
The third meeting on March 7 is geared toward recommendations from the Citizen’s committee, addressing any concerns with the budget and discussion of visionary opportunities for the city.
Recommendations from the Citizen’s Budget Review Advisory Committee will be presented to the City Council. Information: Kim Jackson at kjackson@duluthga.net or 770-497-5321.
