The Duluth City Council recently approved a bid for the Buford Highway median project to include improvements from Davenport Road/County Road to State Route 120/Duluth Highway. The project will construct a new raised median behind a 6-inch curb and will include landscaping and hardscaping. The proposed lane widths are 11 feet. The median will add a refuge area for pedestrians that need to cross Buford Highway.

The city received five bids for the work ranging from $703,994 to over $1 million. The council approved the lowest bid from CMES Inc. and agreed to move forward with coordination with GDOT to award the project and start contracting and administrative paperwork required prior to construction.

Once the city receives approval from GDOT, the contract will be drafted and brought back to the mayor and council for consideration, which could take approximately two to three months.
