Charges have been filed against an Acworth man who police said was speeding through a Cherokee County neighborhood when he drove a car completely through a house.

Cherokee sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said investigators estimated that Shane Rainwater was going over 70 mph in a 25 mph zone on May 7 before the car he was driving left the roadway and plowed through the home on Cedar Mill Crossing.

Rainwater, 36, has been charged with reckless driving, speeding, two counts of failure to stop at a stop sign and not wearing a seat belt, Baker said Wednesday.

Rainwater went through a stop sign and down a driveway before going through a closed garage door and out the back wall of the home. In addition to the damage to the house, a boat and personal watercraft parked behind the home were also damaged.

Baker said Rainwater has been released from WellStar Kennestone Hospital, but is still recovering from his injures and requires additional medical attention, so he will not be arrested until he "no longer requires follow-up treatment."

No one was in the home at the time of the incident, and no one else was injured.
