A smartphone app developed by a Macon man to assist people in encounters with police has seen a spike in downloads recently, according to a report.
The Legal Equalizer app has had about 40,000 downloads since its launch in November, the Telegraph of Macon reported. But it had ” a bigger spike this week,” said developer Mbie Njye. This came following the police-involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota.
The app allows a user to select three contacts to receive a message letting them know that the user has been pulled over by police, according to the report. It also provides the user’s location, and lets contacts know that the user is “currently OK.”
The user also can video-record the entire interaction, and retain the video, according to the article.
