In observance of National Senior Center Month and National Fall Prevention Week, Douglas County Senior Services will host “Falling into Healthy Habits: A Health and Wellness Fair.”

The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Deer Lick Park, 2105 Mack Road, Douglasville.

This event will provide resources and specialists who will address the needs of Douglas County senior citizens to maintain an independent lifestyle for as long as possible.

Its focus also will be to provide valuable, life-saving information to caregivers of older adults in Douglas County.

There will be around 32 agencies to conduct cooking demonstrations, present interactive dance and provide aerobic presentations, free eye exams and hearing screenings.

“With the month of September being National Senior Center Month, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase the Douglas County Senior Center, its services and promote a positive image of aging for the community,” said Douglas County Senior Services Director Konswella Gilchrist.

“This is the first event of this type sponsored by Douglas County Senior Services, and we look forward to working with our community partners in an effort to help all older adults in Douglas County,” Gilchrist added.

“National Fall Prevention Week runs Sept. 22 through Sept. 28, and for Douglas County to host this health and wellness fair raises great awareness to this critical issue,” said Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.

Among older adults, statistics show that falls are the leading cause of injuries, hospital admissions and deaths.
