Cherokee County has agreed to accept $165,000 from a residential developer to pay for a new left-turn lane off Trickum Road.
The county Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with McKinley Construction in which the developer agrees to remit the cash as well as any required right-of-way and construction easements for the roadwork.
McKinley is required to install left-turn and deceleration lanes for its project, at Trickum and Popcorn Drive in Woodstock; but that plan conflicts with the county’s plans to improve Trickum from Sycamore Lane south to Jamerson Road with a center-turn lane, sidewalk and other upgrades, staff said in a report to commissioners.
“It would be more effective if (McKinley) would pay us for the improvements to the turn lane and we perform the work through a contract we have with a private contractor, rather than they doing the work and we tearing it up and re-doing it,” County Manager Jerry Cooper told commissioners.
Right-of-way acquisition is under way, and the project is expected to be bid this fall, staff said.
