Developer to give details of mixed-use ‘Whole Foods’ project

S.J. Collins Enterprises has scheduled a required pre-submittal community meeting regarding its proposed mixed-use project, 7 p.m. Monday at North Decatur United Methodist Church, 1523 Church Street.

The development, to include roughly 300 luxury apartments, 54,000 square feet of restaurant/retail and a 35,000 square-foot 365 Whole Foods (the largest 365 nationally thus far), is one-half mile outside Decatur on Church Street between North Decatur Road and Milscott Drive.

Although the meeting is an official explanation of zoning and land-use changes, it’s anticipated a lengthy discussion with surrounding neighborhood groups will cover the area’s two main concerns of traffic impact and needed pedestrian improvements.

The project will cover 18 acres, the former site of three Nalley dealerships, and about a block from the 27-acre Fuqua development with a projected 960 apartments. Both the Collins and Fuqua sites were on Decatur’s 2014 and truncated 2015 annexation maps.
