A massive water main break shut down traffic, caused a boil water advisory and led DeKalb County and Decatur schools to alter their schedules Wednesday morning. While the main break was in Doraville, near Buford Highway, it affected residents and workers across DeKalb.

Some people were unable to use the toilet or wash their hands at work.

Others were told to work from home, which relieved some but added stress to others that had already left for work. The closure of Buford Highway in both directions at Interstate 285 snarled traffic around the Perimeter in DeKalb County.

The water main break is the third event to close businesses and schools in the county within four months. Snow storms in December and January closed DeKalb County schools for days at a time. Due to the water main break, students at DeKalb schools were sent home early and City of Decatur schools started on a delay.
