DeKalb County is in the process of firing the supervisor who was accused of assaulting a worker during a confrontation in front of a customer.

The county hired Eric Woods as its building development administrator in March, specifically to improve customer service in its planning office. He was arrested on simple assault charges for a May incident in which he allegedly jabbed and yelled at an employee.

Interim planning director Gary Cornell began termination proceedings this week, sending Woods a registered letter to notify him he was being fired. Woods was a probationary employee and does not qualify for merit protection.
