Brookhaven is set to break ground next week on a $15 million building that will house its police department and municipal court.
The new public safety building is set to be built along the future Peachtree Creek Greenway in southern Brookhaven. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m.
The complex is expected to be completed in 2021 and will bring the city’s police department, municipal court and emergency operations center under one roof. At 33,000 square feet, the new building will be twice the size of the current facility, which is a crowded, rented building on Buford Highway.

“The old facility had long been inadequate in terms of accommodating our police and court system,” Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst said in a previous statement. “Not only will we now be able to meet these needs, but this new facility should prove to be an important catalyst for redevelopment in this area of the city.”
It will border the North Fork Peachtree Creek, the future site of the Peachtree Creek Greenway path.

The city announced earlier this summer that the Braselton-based firm BM&K Construction & Engineering was selected to build the new facility on the 19-acre tract of land.
Renderings of the building show that it will be a multi-story structure with a modern design and several outdoor areas overlooking the greenway.
