City Schools Decatur’s Director of Human Resources Caroline Wood recently turned in her resignation, continuing the staff turnover that’s been prevalent the last two months.

Superintendent Phyllis Edwards said she’s seeking a temporary replacement for Wood, whom she hired 10 years ago.

“My plan is to let [the new superintendent] put her own [DHR] in place,” Edwards said. “But if [the superintendent search] goes on too long, I’ll have to proceed and get someone [permanent].”

Since around mid July Edwards has hired a new chief operating officer, a new secondary education director and two new principals. Edwards, herself, announced her resignation in March, with her contract running through the end of the year.

“There has been a lot of change lately,” she said, “and it seems like such a shock because we’ve been stable for a while. But I believe there will be more changes both before and after the new [superintendent] comes in.”
