A meeting about City School Decatur’s real estate concerns is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Central Office/Beacon Municipal Center, 125 Electric Ave. It is an executive session, so it is closed to the public.

CSD is anticipating having to build one or two new schools in the next several years. Projections show that even without annexation enrollment will increase from its current 4,337 students to 7,398 by 2019-20.

“We’re using all our [existing] buildings,” Superintendent Phyllis Edwards said. “We need to identify land for a school site, and the sooner we make the decision the better.”

Although any discussion during an executive session is confidential, any action or vote must be released or publically open. Board Chair Garrett Goebel said he is uncertain if any vote on specific land will be taken Wednesday.
