Decatur police report there have been 16 bicycles stolen in the city between July 1 and Aug. 11. Ten were snatched on the south side, six on the north. According to police spokesperson Lt. Jennifer Ross, the majority of the stolen bikes were not secured and on residential property.

Therefore the police department has announced it will register bikes 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, in front of the Oakhurst Market, 650 East Lake Drive, Decatur. Registration includes providing the owner’s contact information, the manufacturer, serial number, having a numbered decal applied to the bike and also a photo taken of the bike. This allows officers to quickly access information if a bicycle is stolen.
