Earlier this week, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized Decatur’s Clairemont Elementary as one of 335 National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2015. According to Superintendent Phyllis Edwards, only four other schools in Georgia were so honored.
Clairemont was cited in the category “Exemplary High Performing Schools,” based on several factors: culture within the school; top 10 ranking among all Georgia schools the last two years on Georgia’s College and Career Ready Performance Index; and high scores in Measures of Academic Progress, which tracks student growth over the past four years.
Edwards said she and Clairemont Principal Erin Wheeler Gutfreund will travel to Washington D.C. for the Nov. 9-10 recognition ceremony.
