East Point offers limited ticket amnesty

Beginning Monday and continuing through April 15, the East Point municipal court will offer amnesty to people with unpaid traffic or parking tickets. Also, at the discretion of the judges, additional “failure to appear” fines may be waived. Drivers who have had their licenses suspended are eligible for a release from the court department once they’ve paid off their outstanding fines. Ministry kicks off corporate fundraising

The Norcross Cooperative Ministry’s Restoring Hope! initiative has begun its corporate fundraising campaign, with a goal of raising $1 million over the next five years to fund three programs that will benefit the Norcross area.

Those programs include working with 100 families to pull them out of poverty; increasing food distribution and emergency housing along with providing non-food items to families in need; and expanding local awareness of the issues facing poor families in the area. Dan Klepal

Chamber announces scholarship winners

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce has announced the finalists and winner of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership for Chattahoochee Technical College. The winner is Chris Rosson, and finalists are Luana Scienza, Hillary Sommer and Patricia Wilson. These individuals represent the high caliber of students who attend Chattahoochee Technical College and will advance to the state level of the GOAL competition.

Their naming was announced at the chamber’s First Monday breakfast on April 1. The GOAL program, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, was initiated in 1971 to recognize the academic success and personal achievement of the state’s technical college students. Four finalists are chosen from each technical college in Georgia, and one is selected as the winner to compete at the state level. The Cobb Chamber has been a proud local sponsor since 1984. Each finalist and winner receives a scholarship.

Barge set to visit Clayton school

State School Superintendent John Barge will pay a visit to Clayton County’s Kemp Primary School at 10 a.m. on April 15. The school caught Barge’s eye when its chorus recently performed at the state Capitol and at an Atlanta Hawks game. Barge is expected to spend about 90 minutes touring the school and reviewing some of its special programs.

Registration underway for Chamblee 101

Chamblee offers an eight-week course Wednesday evenings starting April 24 to learn more about the city.

The classes are free and open to those who register. Deadline to sign up is April 17.
